this morning i had goosebumps.
not just because i keep thinking about where i was eight years ago today when i heard about new york, and then washington and then eventually about pennsylvania as i drove into work in san francisco over an incredibly deserted golden gate.
i got goosebumps this morning because after walking maddie to class, and while ben and i sat outside her classroom as usual waiting for our friends to meet us to begin our friday morning coffee & kids play date, her school, the entire school, honored this day.
i heard her principal on the pa system give a simple explanation about what being a patriot was. i heard her school stand and say the pledge together. i heard woodie guthrie's this land is your land played on a violin, and i got goosebumps.
i felt proud and happy that her school took the time to come together.
and even though i keep thinking about the fact that one day i will have to truly explain to my children about this day. about how wicked and cruel and broken the world can be. i sat and i listened.
and i remembered.
I was puzzled by the fact that I hadn't been as emotional today as I have in years past. And then I just read your post and sobbed. Beautifully written.
