mojo wizard

i'm super pleased to be an honorary scrap mojo girl this month. my sweet friend marie {hi hon!} asked me to sponsor their newest challenge "favorite wizard of oz quote + orange or yellow" and i was more than happy to sponsor a kR kit as well as submit my version of the challenge.

i adore when dorothy clicks her heels and says "there's no place like home". it's so true isn't it. it's the palce you are safest and the place in my case where the ones i love always are. there are no judgments here.

 

it actually took me a little bit but i eventually realized i wanted a sign for our mantle that tweaked the quote a bit but also had some visual representations of all of the main four characters. blue gingham for dorothy. a heart with a splash of a yellow hug for the scarecrow.

wrapped wire for the tin-man and some twine {fur} wrapped around some twigs for the lion. the box is from a vintage game that i had purchased a while ago, the contents were in an early kR kit but the boxes i always save for projects just like this. you can only get that amazing distressing when using vintage materials, it's nearly impossible to recreate with ink & sanding tools. the base of course sits on some vintage sewing thread spools, one of my go to "feet" materials.

seriously so happy & pleased with the end result as it turned out as perfect as i envisioned.

wedded bliss

the july gallery challenge is up on the kenner road blog and this is my project, and i must admit, new all-time favorite altered creation. it'll be on it's way to a sweet friend who recently got married... maybe you know her? i've been wanting to make mr & mrs ruiz something special to celebrate their new life together and those basic grey rubons were just itching to be used... they were the reason why i picked the olio rub-on book for the blue ribbon add-on so i best use them, dontach think? {there's a few more of this add-on left too... here}

the challenge was to use a stamp in your project and i used the ledger stamp as a background on the woodgrain flashcard that came in the sweetwater embellishment kit. just stamped it randomly two times and applied the rubons right over... it added just enough texture i think without being too busy.

you've got practically two weeks to create something with stamps and get it linked up and posted in the kenner road flickr gallery. go here to find out more!

today is maddie's last day of kindergarten and i am weepy and excited. cannot believe that the year is over and i now have a first grader. crazy!!

bragging right : mini book tutorial

I've got a fun tutorial posted up on the kenner road blog today. It's a beautiful mini book I created for my mom as a mothers day present {don't go look mom unless you want to ruin your suprise...lol}. It takes about 1-2 hours to create so it can be made before sunday.

Also, thank you SO much for all of the wonderful comments posted about my apology layout. It's so sad to hear that so many of us went through that kind of pain and hurting. But i really think {as Doris also stated} that the hurt and pain has made me become a much more compassionate and loving person. I never would wish it on anyone, but there are blessings in every life lesson, even the hard ones we experience.

we've got sun, sun SUN today so i'm going to get outside with ben and play.

two parts build. five parts destroy.

i've spent today in my jammies. playing with paint, which was an utter disaster. cutting paper. collecting and building and ripping it all apart again. i feel so lost in my little corner here. unable to get and truly feel what i want to make, and i want to make things so badly. i finally felt successful after about 5 tries. five times i started something and three times it ended up in the trash. fortunately the other items {my creative therapy prompt for next week - above; the beginnings of a ruffled garland - below} i feel good about. i just keep trying to remind myself that the process is just as important as the end result....

i know i'm not the only person who loves making things that goes through this, the slump. you've felt it too right, i know we all have. it just feels so weird right now because i just got back from cha and i feel so inspired. so in love with making things and art. i think it's partly sensory overload and partly because i want to start creating altered art more. i'll have to show you the few pics i took of the 7 gypsies booth, because it made me want to make things out of old things again. it was my favorite by far.

i've also been going over to kari's year of color blog {i'm guest blogging there in october} to read and be inspired by all of the other amazing women who are collaborating with her. such an amazing concept really, each month is a new color inspiration and the ideas, tutorials and pictures are wonderful.

ok.... back to my corner, i may be able to crank out one more project i've been dreaming about for a while.
